544 headliner 444-544

I went to a local headliner shop today to see about how much a new headliner would cost me to have someone install one. The shop guy said it would probably be $400 - $500!!! For that kind of money i can buy one and put it in myself! I have a 62 544 and would like a dark grey headliner. Does anyone know of a good source that they were pleased with? How difficult is it to install one? What is the procedure?

Thanks

Abram

    544 headliner 444-544

Several years ago I bought a head liner and had a friend that knew a lot more about this job than I did help me. It is a job that I would not try again. In fact I would take a second job to pay some one else to do it.

If you can track down a cotton fabric headliner, it will be a snap to install. Once you have done your best to get it tight just spritz it with a little water and watch it shrink up tight as a drum.

If you want vinyl, let someone else do it. My headliner is black vinyl, but it was that way when I bought the car!

$400-$500 is far too much to pay for a hearliner, anyway. Do some legeork and find a place that has reasonable prices, and then be sure to check out some of the work they've done (i.e. snoop inside cars outside the building!)

My local shop quoted me $900+ for a windshield, and I got a factory glass installed for $125 by shopping around.
