Push brake, blow fuse 200 1989

Since yesterday the brake lights have not been working on my 240. I checked the fuse box and the fuse was blown, so I replaced it. As soon as I pressed the brake pedal to test it, it blew the fuse again. What could be causing this problem? Does a blown fuse usually indicate a short somewhere?

Thanks in advance,
-jm

are your tailights full of water?

that would short them out.

I thought of it because the last two days it's been pouring here in New York.

Yep, short circuit. A wire is probably cut somewhere and touching the grounded chassis. Look in the trunk, especially on the left side near the spare.

Also, I forgot to ask. Whereabouts does the wiring for the rear brake lights run inside the car? Does it go underneath the carpet down the center of the car, or is it along one of the sides?

The wiring harness is along the driver's floor, along the rocker panel. If you've done any work such as pulling new speaker wires in that area, especially if any screws were used that might pinch wires, look closely at the newly installed stuff.
