Did the Nivomat coversion turn out right on your 760 sedan? 700 1989

Today I was down the raod a spell at a dealer of mine. He looked at the 89 760 parked out front of his store, and said "bit high in the back, isn't she?" ...hence the question above.

I had the shop do the IPD conversion about a week back. It is at least 1 - 1 1/2" higher at the rear jack point than the front. In a way, it looks cool - and fast. But I have yet to see another that was up like this in the back. I was looking over the picture gallery tonight - just seeing if anyone else has had this same experience. Not one that I could find.

Please - I need feedback from another IPD conversion user! I am trying to get used to this. I like the handling, but the look - I am not that sure.

If you are worried about the appearance, throw a bit of weight in the rear. If it starts to sag, throw some out.

Come on Jaydee - you got to be joking!

Thing is you spend good money on something that you expect to be right. You read as much as you can find, and it looks to be just the right thing to do. You have it installed, for a price - and it radically changes the look of the car - from what it would be as stock with a good suspension.

IPD says that the difference in height at the jack points should be less than an inch - actually they said 1/4 - 1/2". It is 8 1/2" at the front jack point & 10" at the back jack point - well over the amount stated.

All I would like to find out if others have experienced the same thing.

Have you loosened and properly tightened everything with the car on the ground (or the suspension otherwise loaded)?

That would be my first guess.

Second, I would be curious to see what IPD says. You have brought this up with them, right?

What would they loosen and tighten?

To my knowledge the only bolts removed were the ones to the shock itself (top and bottom). The old springs were compressed and pulled out & reverse for the new. Would that be right?

Ah, I assumed you had new bushings installed as well. Yeah, you should just be able to drop the bolts and compress the spring (I think).

You aren't alone: http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=35979.

I have talked to them, even sent pictures. My next step will be to make pictures of the measurement at each jack point, and send that.

The response from the man there that actually does the conversion of the the Boge shocks said that the pix looked fine - but it might be hard from him to judge from what I sent. Other than that they said that it was supposed to be about 1/2" diff.

As far as installation, I asked my tech if there was anything there as far as positioning the springs properly - that might cause this. He said no. He even read the instructions I got off the Brickboard.

Oh - everything is tight in the back - no noises - rides taunt - controlled.

Thanks for the input - you too, Jaydee (you are forgiven). Hope to get some more from actual IPD users before I call them back.

I have a 960 and 760. I decided not to go for the IPD conversion when I replaced the shocks (twice) in each of these cars, as the ride the Nivos give is great, and the load always settles out to the same level. I should imagine that an aftermarket conversion to a non-original suspension system might be fraught with abnormalities, such as a different ride height. BUT: it does sound as though you have a problem with the installation.
My suggestion to throw some weight in the trunk was only partly in jest; I hadn't realized how badly out of whack your ride really is (ie 2 inches betwen points).

Perhaps you could help - Jaydee? 700 1989

Jaydee - I had thought that maybe the front springs were suspect - but then again I would think that improbable on an 89 760 w 112K. Still I wonder. Might I ask a favor of you, as we have few (to none) 760's where I live?

This would probably only be relevant if you have the stock 15" wheels on your 760 - but when you have time, would you check your ride heights at the front and rear jack points? This would give me a reference on a 760 with a good set of Nivomats.

I have Perilli 205 60 R15's on the car. That might be a bit of the problem as far as appearance, as they do not fill up the back wheel well very good in it's raised position (lower profile and all).

Thanks for letting me pick your brain.

Not a problem? 700 1989

No problem. Maybe it will be in the spec book.

Hey, pretty soon you will have some extra cash to get another brick! Congrats on the daughter graduating!
