Amount of A/C oil

I just replaced my A/C compressor and dryer/receiver; removed and cleaned out hoses and condensor, and put back together with new seals on all fittings. The compressor had oil in it, but uncertain how much. In retrospec should have emptied and measured it. I assume it was the required 6 to 8 oz required.

Two questions:

1. How much oil should be replaced having cleaned out condensor and lines?

2. If the system is overfilled by say 4-6 oz of oil, will it matter?

Thanks

Gary

Post the model and year of the vehicle, and I ( or someone else) can give you the total system refrigerant oil capacity. Too much oil, and you may not be able to charge the correct amount of refrigerant.

Amount of A/C oil 900 1991

Sorry about that, forgot to use the Model/Year pull-down. 91 940 turbo with new Zexel compressor. I'm planning on taking out new compressor, draining all the oil (no bottom drain plug) and starting oil fill from scratch. I want to be certain since I've gone through all the work of taking everything apart and cleaning. This is first time I've tackled this job.

Thanks for you help

The total system oil capactity listed for the 91 940 w/Zexel comp is 6.8 oz. If everything has been flushed and cleaned, with new drier, then that should do it, by adding 6.8oz to the compressor on the re-install.

Thanks Gary

I took out the compressor and emptied to find that there must have been a very little in the new one; just enough to keep it lubed I guess. I replaced with about 6 oz, so maybe I'll add a bit for good measure.

Oh, and it did have a drain plug on the back. I was looking on the bottom for one.

Thanks for the help and confirmation. I green in this area.

Gary

hi there, im not farmiliar with the 740 system. but ive had good luck cleaning the hoses, condensor, ect. and i also remove and clean the evaporator coil, which was the by far the worst of all. hair, gunk, and other stuff never seen before. about 75 percent of the outside of the evap coil was covered with this stuff. thats my experience. good luck
