oil in/on intake manifold (960) 900 1995

A friend brought over his new-to-him '95 960 (new shape) with about 200K miles on it to have me look at it. Would've been better if he'd had me look at it before buying, but that's water under the bridge.

The problem I'm concerned about is a harsher than normal sound above 3000 rpm, and oil fouling on/around the outside of the throttle body (which of course leaked down the rest of the driver side of the block). When I pulled the air intake hose the inside of the intake manifold was wet, and there was what I estimate to be probable about 1/2 cup of oil sitting in the bottom of that big bulbous manifold.

I'm more of a redblock guy, so this is me asking what list wisdom is from those who know this engine better than I do. Is this considered normal, a minor fix, or the harbinger of expensive work to come?

Thanks,

Bram

I'd check to make sure the PVC system is intact and not blocked. It's just like a red engines, just different parts. The "nipple" is on the rear of the intak at the bottom, pull the hose off the flame trap holder on the intake hose and suck through it, see if it's blocked. The flame trap may be blocked too, so check that. The boxes don't usually get blocked, they just leak from the seal on the block. The oil pressure light sounds like it's low on oil, and the oil is flowing away from it.

Just one more tidbit of information I just remembered: doing some enthusiastic test driving around the site, I could make the oil light flash up ever so briefly by reversing at speed and braking hard.

Some oil in the bottom of the intake is passable, a teaspoon or so Half a cup is way to much. some bad blow by, or the breather box is stoped up. Its located beneathe the intake. I took the one off of my car by removing the power steering and alt, along with the brackets. It was a tight sqweeze but doable.
I would try that to see if it would help along with a couple of treatments of Auto R-X, If you aren't familar with the product, check out their website, It's worked for me and others as well, then again some it hasn't
Hope that helps

Thanks (and also thanks to Chris). I don't have the car available at the moment, but I'll probably have it back here soon. Flame trap is clean (I checked that) but like the rest of the intake obviously oil-soaked, so next time I lay hands on that thing I'll pull the breather box for a good check/clean. If that doesn't help, well, I guess the owner is up the brown creek.
