a/c switch reconnection 200 1987

at least one of you may remember my post about my a/c switch. i got another switch to put in, but i'm not sure where the wires go (this is the older type switch-the knob, not the one shaped like the hazards/defrost switch). i know which wires they are-i believe two green, one red and one yellow/blue. the colors may be wrong but i know which wires to use. i just don't know where on the switch they're connected. any help?

also, when i go to recharge my system, is there anything i need to know? my friend got one of those recharge kits from advance auto parts, what kind of thing should i look for/do when i recharge?

the connections are the more important part of this query.

If you opened the AC system for any reason like changing an expansion valve or compressor make sure you replace the receiver/dryer. Also, evacuate the system to make sure the system will hold vacuum before you charge it. Placing the system under vacuum will remove moisture from the system which is a must. An "off-the- shelf" recharge kite will work fine. If you have converted your system to R134a expect having to replace the expansion valve and dryer eventually.

My first brick was a 1975 245DL. The ac switch was a rocker switch on the control panel. Now it's full circle, with the newer 240s again having the rocker switch.

You and I have, however, the turn-the-knob type. The most critical part is the silver tube that runs from the switch to the refrigerant line near the expansion valve. If that is broken the R-12 inside is gone and the switch won't work correctly.

Wiring - from the Volvo Service Manual Wiring Diagrams for 1987-88 240s.

Blue or blue-yellow to the bottom side terminal on the microswitch.

Red to the other terminal on the microswitch. That terminal has a 90deg bend in it.

Green - diagram is ambiguous here.

One green goes to the terminal on the bottom front of the switch, and the other green (2 wires, shown) goes on the terminal on the upper back of the switch.

I hope you can get some sense out of this.

Good Luck,

Bob
