SIPS 900

Anyone know what year the "SIPS" safety system was introduced on the 940's? Is it simply more reinforcement in the doors and side of the car or is there more to it?

1992 - my understanding is that is using beams that cross the cabin also to distribute energy from a Side Impact to the other side of the car.

SIPS also invloved a reinforced B pillar. I believe that side airbags were added in late 94 for the 95 models.

Are you sure about the side airbags? Don't think the 940's ever got them. The 850's got them in 95 and I believe the later 960's got them in 96 - maybe???

940s never did get the side air bags but did get the reinforced B pillars that comrpised the SIPS system when it was fist introduced in 1992. The side airbags were added to the 960 with the 95 model year.

It also includes little dynamite charges that explode when the airbag deploys to tighten the seatbelts...no I am not kidding. I have a set in a box in my garage..Class C explosive canisters with little cable attahced to the seatbelt mechanism.
