Link to Volvo accident--how do people survive these? 700

This is probably the worst Volvo crash I've seen. This lady apparently survived the crash although was in the hospital for over 3 months. I'm sure you'll understand why: Article about the accident (w/photo)

I can't begin to explain how much more at ease I am since I put my wife in a Volvo...I don't worry nearly as much about bad weather or idiots on the highway...

Absolutely, I just gave my girlfriend my 84 240 last month. Friday evening she was hit by a kid driving his mother's car, merging into traffic. She was in the left lane (coming up the hill from the MacKay bridge headed toward MicMac Mall, where Victoria Road merges, for anyone who knows Dartmouth, NS) and the kid merged into traffic but crossed two lanes ...right into the passenger front door of her car. The two passenger doors & the wheel arch were caved in, the impact was severe enough to knock the exhaust off the hangers, but the mass of the car (and her driving skill) kept her from being bumped over the curb into oncoming traffic. The worst of it? Not one damn person stopped except her, and the other driver, not even the police car a few cars behind the accident!Certainly shakes my confidence in the local law enforcement officials. Still waiting to hear from the kid's parents about how to proceed, I guess if they won't call it's going to be the full meal deal through their insurance - new paint will be nice. She's shaken up but fine, and the car will survive, just needs two doors and a wheel arch. I shudder to think what would have happened if she'd been driving a Geo... Her life is much more important to me than fuel economy. I can't wait to get rid of my Golf & back into a Volvo as a daily driver.

The car looks...err.... 'peeled' open... 700

Are we sure they didn't open the car up like a box of crackerjacks using the jaws of life?

Must have rolled into the tree, that front bumper is intact with no damage. My guess is the car was opened at the roof supports by jaws of life. Notice how the doors fall away from the car......still an interesting picture and vouches for volvo safety...

i would agree..and i think the car rolled sideways into the tree along the front roof/bonnet crumpling the roof down...then its been cut away and moved up and back...

even so she must have stacked up some real good kama in her past life to get away with that one....interesting LACK of low level damage...

Simply because it's a Volvo, the safest cars on the road. As a veteran officer I have seen many crashes less serious than this whos occupants did not survive and often wondered why.
