My New Brick!--- PICS 200 1989

I just picked this little puppy up today. I have been lamenting for days on the 850 message board about which 850 to buy, but when I saw this beautiful 1989 Silver Sedan I knew my answer. I'm just a 240 kind o' guy!

Here's what I know about it. B230F, all repair records back to first purchase, new tranny under waranty, new tires with lifetime alinements, new master cylinder, breaks in good condition, roof rack. Power locks, windows and moonroof, seat warmers, and radio all work. The best part is....A trunk full of spare parts from Pick-A-Part! Spare AMM, dozens of sensors, complete harness, fan and motor, light covers, body molding, several spare ECUs and idle speed computers, etc! I'm a happy guy!

My girlfriend bought a great '83 240 waggon back in December. She loves it, I keep it running. It has been my first close contact with Volvo's, but with all of Brickboard's help, I have come to love working on these cars. When I test drove this pampered 240 today, I knew it had to be mine.

Hello, my name is Ryan, and I am a 240 addict.

-Ryan

PS, any tips based on engine pics or otherwise are gladly encouraged. I'm going to start with new battery cables. Oh and I have noticed that there is some PS fluid coating the power steering fluid reservoir (?). I also just realized it has ODB 1 so I will be on the street at sunrise searching for fault codes : )

Man, nice car! Silver is my favourite. From looking at the engine compartment pic, you might want to put a brake system flush on the 'to do' list, to save future headaches. It looks like the master cylinder is a little low on fluid, and the fluid should be clear.

Beautiful! Bricks look great in silver, IMHO. Hard to tell, but that engine compartment looks very well maintained. What part of the country? It's very rare to see a body in such good condition here in New England.

Hi, thanks for the good words. This brick has spent it's whole life in California, mostly in Fresno but now it is in Los Angeles. I guess what they say about Cali cars is true!

Here is another pic with my girlfriends blue waggon (my first Volvo love) in the background. The happy couple enjoying another sunny day in L.A.

Very nice! You're very luck to find a decent brick. I was not so lucky and I have bought a 1994 850 wagon.

Hey, your car looks great. Is that a glass sunroof in the car? I also have one in my car, that was installed when the car was two months old. Can you add some pictures of it from the inside, I'm just curious if it is the same as mine.
Good luck and happy bricking.

Here are two shots of the moonroof, one from inside and one from out. It is a power moonroof, but I am not sure about it's aftermarket status.

It looks great. The previous owner obviously had a mind for the car with his Pick and Pull stuff.

'Ditto' on the Power Steering. I keep suspecting mine of leaking but it isn't. just has that glazey look.

Typical stuff you may want to explore on the first nice weekend.
Flame trap and related hoses being clogged.
Air filter box thermostat, for non function. ( many of us eliminate completely)

Sounds and looks like a winner. Good luck

Beautiful car. You will enjoy it. The good news is that apparently a 240 lover owned and maintained it. The power steering reservior is fine. They all have a "shiny" look to them.

As for that P/S fluid, mine has that too, at least i thought so at first, it seems more to be just the residue of the plastic. I have wiped it down many times and i am not leaking any fluid. I wouldnt let it bother you unless fluid levels were going down.

She's a beauty! Its a good motor, the B230F I have it in my '89. 240's are addicting, i know, i found this deal on ebay last night for a 242, 244, 245 for $1500. I almost decided not to go to school next year over it, then for some reason i came to my senses...darn it!
