Hard starting 200 1991

Engine cranks many times before starting.Other times it starts immediately.Installed new pump relay.Once started it runs fine. Any suggestions? thank you.

Or it could be the tank return flow valve sticking open and draining the gas line overnight. That's next to the fuel filter.

I had a similiar problem with my 91 model 240. It was the early stages of the engine position sensor (RPM sensor) failing. It is located on top center of the bellhousing, behind the valve cover.

Any relationship to outside temperature, to how long the car has been sitting, or to how full the gas tank is?

Any smoke after a hard startup?

Make sure you have good plugs and a strong blue spark while cranking.
