A question about the overdrive relay... 200 1987

Hello, all Volvo gurus and enthusiasts!

A question about the overdrive relay... By change repairing the harness on my Volvo 240 '87, I found out that the relay strangely gets warm. If I pressed the overdrive button, it got warmer. Is it normal or it should be replaced?

Sincerely,
Dmitriy.

It is normal for any relay to generate heat when it is picked. When not picked (OD turned off and up arrow light on) there should be no heat. If the heat is excessive when picked (arrow off)you may have the very common bad solder connection inside the relay, easily fixed, see the FAQ section for 700 series, applies to your car as well.
