anyone know this instrument cluster ? 140-160

I have one of these on my 1971 142S here in Australia. I gather that my car was one of several imported at the same time and sold in the Melbourne area. They all had similar rego no's beginning with VN. It is possible that this one had o'drive initially but this is no longer in it.
The lights at the bottom of the cluster are for oil, ignition, turn indicater, o'drive, high beam etc.The car also has a Mota Lita steering wheel which may also have been standard on them.
I would think the price at AU$125 is cheap as I have been told they could be worth AU$500 - buy it!

I also had one of these "GT" clusters in my 72 142S here in Oz too (not original equipment though - it had been added).

No way are they worth $500 ... maybe $200-$250 ("Rallye" ones are rarer therefore would be worth more)

Also, for the person who asked ..... Australia didnt go to metric speedos in cars until 74 or thereabouts - mine was in miles/hr too. (My current car - a 1974 142 - has a "metric" speedometer as standard)

anyone know this instrument cluster ?-check the fuel sender 140-160

Also, as a side note, (if I remember correctly):
The GT and Ralleye clusters require different fuel gauge senders in the tank. I think that the GT uses a special one, whilst the Ralleye can use the standard sender. Please correct me if I have reversed this, and feel free to criticize me as an American for using the word "Whilst" in a sentence.

Yes Jeremy you have them reversed. The early Rally clusters required a separate fuel tank sending unit. "Whilst" [gotta love it] the later GT panels used the original fuel tank sender. My scan of the competition catalog was sucessful and can be seen at the image library.

There is also one for sale in IPD's classified section. Looks to be identical to the one on Ebay.
To my eyes they almost look homemade. The Rally instrument cluster had five guages and the later GT cluster always had six guages. I have a Volvo competition catalog circa 1975 and that cluster is not shown. I worked in Volvo parts from 79 to 89 and never saw anything like that. I sold about 10 or 15 Rally/GT clusters in that time period so I know what they should look like. The mounting ears should be black and not silver. Thats my take.

    Cheers, Jim

That cluster on ebay is for cars though '72 only... different completely from what would be in your '75 catalog.

The silver ears would just be from wear, as thats the mounting surface... that item on ebay though was offered though Volvo dealerships as an option or dealer installed accessory. Direct bolt up to stock. Accepts all the same wiring connectors. Except for the tach wiring of course... They are not entirely uncommon.

The GT set for the early 140s is a bit more rare...

I suppose it is possible that they just don't show that dash setup in the Competition catalog.

        1 P/N 552703-1 fit 140 [year model 67-70]
        2 P/N 552723-9 fit 140 [year model 71-72]
        3 P/N 552704-9 fit 164 [year model 69-70]
        4 P/N 552724-7 fit 164 [year model 71-72]

I will attempt to upload a scan of the catalog.

        Cheers, Jim

Not a Ralleye, but a GT set. See Matt's website for clear details. I forgot the link, but you could search the board and find it.

not entirely accurate, but.. here you go. Someone else has a similar page. don't remember where though... Odd too that the one on ebay has a 130 speedometer... must be from a US spec car even though in AU.

Actually, that would be what is more commonly referred to as a 'GT' cluster. The rallye set has an oil pressure gauge as welll, among various other differences in both layout and the gauges themselves.

And... the one on ebay looks to be for a 164. 4cyl tachs redline starts at 6k. that one starts at 5500...

Found in our own image library, last page of 140-160, a Ralley cluster for a 140.
