Some ebay stuff... especially for you Canadian folks 140-160

Does anyone recognise this transmission? Doesn't look like a M41, definitely not a M410. The same seller also has the crossmember listed in a separate auction, so I'm assuming the lot did come out of a 140. Could it be the elusive '75 M45 or whatever it is? In either event, it with the xmember would be a good deal for someone close that wants to do an OD conversion (if it is indeed for a B20). Surely could get the driveshaft out of him too...

Also, from a different seller, there is a fairly nice looking '68 wagon in Toronto... just search 'Volvo 145' and it'll turn up.

Transmission is pure standard 1974 and forward (casting of transmission house changed in 1974).. It's a M41 type J.

Bellhouse is also pure standard late B20.

Only little tricky thing is the shifter-system - when looking close it has a rubber "washer" between gearbox-lid and "shifter-housing" - this style of shifter is first seen in 1975 - so this could be a very late 140 or if VERY strange - the complete gearbox as shown COULD have originated from a 1975 B20 OD 240 model..

(But who would order a 240 with B20 and OD and not the NEW 1975 B21? - well, without ANY means to offend - at that time 240's for the American market where assempled in Canada....?.)

Narhh.. the seller is probably right - it all originates from a late 1974 140..

Seller got back again and said it came out of a '73... but like you, he speculates the setup came from a '75.

Here in the states, the B21 didn't come along until '76. '75s are oddballs for sure. And... as for them being made in Canada.. I've seen/had '74s that were made in Belgium. Usually in colors that were not reliable... dark maroon or baby blue. I always shy away from the Belgium made cars. Just a personal thing though.

Well... he says its a M41. they must have made some changes that I've not been familiar with. Learn somethin' every day I guess.

Still a decent deal if anyone's close. His buy it now price is seems reasonable to me at $275 or so. Could probably coax him out of the tranny, crossmember and driveshaft for $350 or so...

Other ebay stuff. Not worth a new thread 140-160

These appear to be for pre-1973 cars.

What does a 144GT have? Gauge cluster, O-drive, I expect.

mmkay... that's an oddball. I don't know what the differences are with the GT designation, but I thought they only made 142GTs. Never ever have I heard of a 4 door Volvo GT anything.

Ain't ebay a hoot!

Britain only got the 142 for I _think_ 2 years.. so anyone wanting a GT package after the two door was no longer available would have had to get it on the four door.. The gt package was a dealer added item wasn't it?

I watched this item, ended at $168! I checked the part number, NLA. Bummer.

Hmm, weird. Doesn't look like a M41, though the bellhousing does look like the stock M40/41 type. Definitely not the B20-M45 one. Doesn't look like a M410 either. Weird, funny, dunno...

I sent him an email asking what year/make/model it came out of... I'll update if/when he gets back...

EDIT: In looking at his other auctions, I see he has listed a Djet distributor out of a '71 142e. If all these bits came out of the same car, I'm more confused.... The spare M41 I have sitting outside came out of a '71 142e, and it sure don't look like that one. The one on ebay also looks like it's maybe got the reverse gear on the other side like a M410. Maybe his listings are from different cars.. stock '71 would have the wobble stick shifter.

Matt,
Thanks for posting that distributor listing. Guys, please let me have it! I want a complete spare to tear apart and learn how to rebuild/repair. I am driving my 142E to work every day and do not want to risk anything.

Thanks,
Jeremy

How about off a '72-'74 140 with overdrive? Wouldn't this explain the short shifter? That is a J-type, no?
That's my guess.

Yea... he got back to me and told me it came out of a '74 140.. which should have a M41 (or M40 of course). But the transmission case casting looks different than a M41 to me... Perhaps the latest M41 transmissions were different?

Apparently there were different cases. I saw one exactly like that in a '72 1800ES that's known to be original. It's still just an M41.

so would it fit in an earlier 145 (71) without any mods...?
