Engine head surface corrosion 900 1995

The engine is a B230F. The head surface has a bad corrosion spot near the water pump. It seem that there is a hole for water in the block, no a hole in the head in that area. This has cause the corrotion in the head surface, There is a bout one millimeter of good surface to the nearest head bolt hole and about 2 millimeter to the inside of the head gasket ring edge for that cylinder. Should I resurface the head? Is there any product out there to fix this kind of problem?

DevCon makes a good epoxy product that we used to use to blend fill intake runners (flow control). It can be used on an aluminum head in the area that you are speaking of and flat filed (carefully) to match the original surface. Do not try bridging any spot that protrudes in to the combustion chamber.

I think that I would be concerned about why the corrosion was there. Running a 50-50 mix in the cooling system should have prevented it. Sounds like a water and stop leak mix might have been run at some time.

Thanks, I will try the epoxy. It does not surprise me that the previous owner's mechanic used some stop leak product that caused the corrosion. The lady who owned the car had perfect maintenance records, but turned out that the mechanic was playing tricks on her to make her come back repeatedly.

I'm not surprise about the mechanic. That is why so many of these cars are thrown away in my area. Be careful with the file when you work that aluminum surface. A groove will be hard to fix. Try wrapping it with a good grade emery paper, 220 grit to start.

Regards,
