96 960 moisture/rust on dip stick 900

Greetings, my 96 960 frequently has rust on the dipstick. Moisture is not being burned off, any thoughts.

Put on a new O-ring at the top by the handle. The old one is not sealing properly and letting air pass (PCV system vacuum) the dip stick seal thus the rust. Mine did the same thing replaced the O-Ring no more rust on the top of the stick. New O-ring less than a quarter from the dealer.

Make sure your thermostat is working correctly. Many fail by staying open and over cooling the engine. Check that your temperature gauge comes quickly to mid scale and stays there from a cold start.

Also make sure you have the 92 degree C unit. I've sometimes had parts people try to give me a lower temperature unit.

You should check that the o-ring at the top of the dipstick is good as well and if the stick is able to work its way up and not seal you will get moisture in the tube , is the rust at the bottom or about midway on the stick . Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. It's midway, just where the bend is.
