wife's heavy foot 200 1981

So we decide to go down the highway about 8 mile, and the wife would
like to drive the brick (she only has once before). It's a standard 245.
Pull the choke, starts like a charm (as usual), roll down the driveway
in neutral and onto our sidestreet. I have told her you need to give
it enough gas to get going or you stall it, but I think she matched
the clutch travel with the right foot, and we were up to 40km/hr in
about 3 seconds, squealing tires and all. I had no idea the thing
could move like that! This is the barely 100hp B21A; rear end is 3.91 - kids said they preferred Mom's driving to mine, can't believe it...

Sort of like the brakes on a 122 (no booster):
It'll do the stuff, you just gotta press the pedal FIRMLY!

that 3.91 rear end must be it ... I have the 3.73 in my '89 745T and it flies surprisingly fast for a big refridgerator..

I always thought it was strange how every Volvo model sold after 1970 in the United States has fuel injection, yet carbs were still available overseas until the very late 80s/early 90s.

Anyway, I have made the same observation with my '89 245. This one has the B230F, 114hp. It drives okay under normal to moderate acceleration but nothing to write home about. However, if you really get on the gas and give it the opportunity to wind out through the gears it pulls much stronger than you would expect given the weight of the car relative to the size/power of the motor. Off the line, I can keep up with just about anything on the road until about 30-35mph. The other drivers are very surprised. :-)

Oh and the kid with the little Honda "fartcan" muffler, and his racing stickers that add 25 hp, was angry when he saw my tail lights of my 240 slushbox. Good times...
