anyone using a manual boost controler? 700

Wanted to know if anyone is using a manual boost control and if so how well they work, what you think of it ect. I have an 88 740t and have been looking at the one at www.dawesdevices.com Thanks,

I'm running 2 turbos w/ the Dawes Device at a conservative setting slightly over stock and am happy w/ the zip. I really don't run wide open hardly at all. I went to the yards and procured two later rounded exhaust manifolds and Mitsubishi turbos- they spool faster, and am happy with the setup. Turbo lag seems minimized compared to the Garrett. I have manual shifts and I find I am in the under 5000rpm range 98% of the time- so I don't miss the higher air output of the Garrett turbos. Yes, I recommend these mods for simplicity and peppy response without getting complex. Your car will definitely feel faster. The turbos are all slow out of the hole but the midrange is great.

I have been running a G-Valve for years and am quite happy with it. I do have a 90 model with bigger connecting rods and my high boost it set around 14psi.

How has the g-valve affected your gas mileage? With your exhaust, the g-valve and the airbox mod how much hp do you think you have? I have 2.5in exhaust and am interested in the results the other two modifications would produce. Thanks,

Keep in mind too that your '88 has smaller/weaker connecting rods than '90+ Volvo turbos (the change actually happened mid-way through '89). This would likely never be a factor running stock boost. But once you begin pushing the engine harder, you're more prone to exposing its weak spots.

Just food for thought.

I've taken that into consideration; I'm only looking to run maybe 10psi at the most. I should probably keep it where it is at, my car has 265,000 miles on it. It would mainly be to cut out some of the lag. Thanks,

I assume you mean a "G-valve"; yes they work quite well.

On your '88, the end of the yellow on the turbo gauge is ~15 PSI, the beginning is 0. I'd aim for about 10-12.

Go to turbobricks.com, there are always posts on MBC's there. From what I have
read folks are happy with them and notice immediate improvements in power from the increased boost. There are some cautions as well (calibrated boost gauge is good idea).

I have read similar results. I posted here hoping to get an opinion that was based more upon dependability, longevity and gas milage than it was on the horsepower is god mentality that seems to be prevelant at turbobricks.
