Poor fit of Nissens radiator 700

I just replaced the original radiator on my newly acquired 744GL. It had started leaking at the left rear vertical seam - not bad longevity for 16 years and 190K miles. The new Nissens from FCPGroton fits, but is loose in the mounting brackets. It seems like the new radiator is about 3/8 inch too short. The top rubber lined clamps don't hold it securely. I can wiggle it back and forth, although not enough that it would fall out. I'm a little worried that because it can move, it may vibrate enough to shorten its life. Has anyone encountered this problem, and have a solution? Should I get new rubber mounts?

I used two 3-4 inch pieces of heater hose, cut in half lengthwise, just as another post stated.

Poor fit of Nissens radiator 700

Hello,

I had the same problem when installing a Modine radiator in my 760 Turbo. I cut two pieces of heater hose (one for each top bracket) in half, then placed them over the mounting ridges on the radiator. When the clamps are in place, it adds extra rubber between the clamp and the radiator. Mine has been tight ever since. Anyway, it's a quick fix and seems to work well.

I hope this helps...

What we usually did at the dealership level was to put the metal brackets in the vice and bend them over some. When reinstalled they would put greater pressure on the top of the radiator. I know it is not the most perfect thing in the world but it is what it is.
