Wiped out wipers woefully not wiping 200

Hmmmm....on the '83 245, I've noticed that when one grabs one of the wipers, it seems to be free and independent of the other wiper. You can turn one without moving the other. Further, as you might have guessed, the wipers were not working. Any places to start? I'm thinking that the magnets have come unglued perhaps in the wiper motor, but I can't figure out why they would move independent of each other. Is there a wire in there somewhere that might be broken, rope or some other geared mechanism?

Thanks!

If tightening down the nut on the outside as mentioned in the other post does'nt work, you're in for some fun reinstalling the cable onto the cam that bolts strait to the wiper arm itself. If tightening the nut on the arm does'nt do the trick post back. B.G.

Lift up the the cover, where the arm meets the shaft.

There is a nut that wedges the arm down onto the shaft.

One of them has most likely come loose.
