Run for 3 min, then stops?!? HELP! 700 1990

Hi, I have a 1990 740GL and it's been running great until today. I was driving and all the sudden it stalls, starts right back up and runs fine for a while then it stalls again but won't start up until I wait a minute or two.

So that's what happens now, It stalls...I wait a minute, starts fine and runs for 3 minutes then just dies.

I had it towed to my mechanic, I'm thinking it could be the fuel pump.. if so I might be able to fix it myself, the guy i bought if from has a spare in the trunk (junkyard)


how hard is it to change?

Any other ideas that could cause this?

It sounds like the crank/RPM sensor has failed.It is mounted on top of the transmission bellhousing.When this sensor fails it wont provide any signal to the fuel pump.Don't rule out also the fuel pump relay.Good luck and keep us posted on your findings.

Try to disconnect your AMM, and start the car. If the idle is maintained you have a bad MAF.Good luck.
