164/140 Automatic Transmision Question 140-160

Hello Board,

Does anyone know if a B-W 35, (M35 in volvo speak), from a 140 will fit
a 164 that was also equipped with a BW 35?

THanks,
george.

The bell housings are definitely different although they look alike.
The bolt circle for the B30 is about an inch bigger than the B18/B20.

Yep - may be some minor differences in the valve body, and probably the torque convertor, but you probably won't notice. The bell housing will have to be swapped I think.

And perhaps the selector as well. My '71 144 selector is on the steering, my '73 164 selector is on the floor. One other thing, my 144 has only L after D, my 164 has 1 and 2 after D. But perhaps it will still work, perhaps in the 144 they've called 1 L and just did not make use of 2?
