I might need to replace the alternator on daughter's 89 740 nonturbo...I have a good 80amp alt in the closet...would it put out enough juice?

Should be OK, if she does not have a power hungry aftermarket stereo installed, and all of the wiring is up to snuff. Install and test output voltage at idle and 1500rpm, and then with all accesories, lights, AC,rear defrost, blower on high etc on. As long as it maintains at least 12.5 volts ( or even better 13.5v+) at full load it should be fine.
