Tire Pressure Gauge Calibration

Does anyone check the calibration of their tire gauges? If so, how do you do it? I have a Milton air line inflater gauge that is several years old and after I had my tires rotated the other day, I doublechecked the pressure (while I re-torqued the lug nuts) it was about 5 pounds higher than it usually comes back from the tire dealer. I thought my gauge might be out of calibration. Any thoughts?

Tire Pressure Gauge Calibration

Simplest thing to do is to use a couple of other inexpensive pencil type tire pressure gauges or small digital gauges and see if they agree with your Milton gauge. They should all be within 1 psi of each other. (You can lose up to 1/2 psi everytime you check your pressure.) Also, I assume that you waited until the tires had cooled before you checked the pressure. I have a gauge in each of the four cars that my family drives and I cross check them about once a year. If one is off from the others I will throw that one away and buy another one. I'm not sure where you would actually get your inline gauge calibrated. Check out some of the new digital gauges. I think these tend to be more accurate than the old style gauges. Below is a link to edmunds.com where they have an exhaustive listing of comments on the subject.............
