Misc Questions 200

Hey,

Thanks for all of you that gave me some answers to my seating questions..... :)

I have some more however...

Does anybody know how to go about changing the bulbs for the top level switches in the center console? Burned out bulbs in a dash have always been a big pet peave of mine....

Also in my line of work (Antiques) I often cary large Swedish Mora clocks in the back of my wagon. I can get a 6-7 foot clock in easily with room to spare On the larger clocks the seatboard goes over the back of the folded seat bottom. There are some really large clocks that are over 8 feet tall that would be a bit of a handful in the wagon because of the length. My S70 had a "foldable" passengers seat so that large objects could be placed on top of it. Did the 240 wagons have a passengers seat like this? I have not been able to find the latches yet.

Make sure it's not a loose connection or bulb. To access: Unscrew two upper side panel panhead screws, two lower slotted plastic clips (rotate counterclockwise) pop out, 2 small phillips screws at bottom of front panel near trans cover under cubby/radio. Grasp bulb base and wires of switch, pull out. Pull out the bulb and replace. I recommend doing this rather than trying to pop out the switch which may mar the switch or break the clips.

One thing you might want to look into is getting a 2 dr. passenger seat from a junk yard and useing it. All coupe seats have the dump lever that may give you the room that you need.

4 bolts (13mm if I remember correctly) to remove passenger seat. Easy, takes about 15 minutes...

The loadspace question's easy - unless you have a passenger as well. The rear seat squab is removeable on later wagons (which it looks like yours is, just tip it up and bang each hinge out of it's retainer - they just unclip).

You'll have to stow the squab beside the giant clock (what do you do with them BTW!)and you can then more or less fully recline the front seat, giving about nine feet of continuous (but not completely flat) loadspace.

The front seats don't fold forwards though (as far as I know), so the slightly less than perfect arrangement is about the best you can do.

I've not yet had to replace a switch bulb - but it seems they insert from the back of the switch.

It's easy to examine the switches, the little mounting panels just pop out.

      Thanks for the info....

Im kind of thinking of grabbing the seats out of an 850 then rather than deal with removing the back seat..... The reason I like the wagon is I can go from cargo vehicle to normal passenger car in a matter of few seconds.....

As for the Mora Clocks I sell them.... The Swedes took the design of the English clocks of the same time period and "borrowed" the design of the movement.... Not unlike how Volvo "borrows" some of the design concepts from some of the Germans.... In typical Swedish style they simplify the design somewhat and add some of their own personality.....

I often have clocks similar to this one tightly secured in the back of my wagon.

Interesting clock - the shape should almost exactly match the contour of the luggage area with the seats folded as suggested!

Seriously though I don't know how well you'll get on with 850 seats - do they fit? If you were thinking just the front (if they fold flat) you will still have the problem that the rear squab sticks up when it's folded.

I doesn't take that long to remove the squab, but it will take a few minutes to create the 'continuous' loadspace.

I've not tried reclining the front seat underneath the rear seat back (with the rear squab removed) - I think the front seatback is too long.

Only other suggestion is the full length roofrack - popular with those in the antiques world - but I've just noticed you have the factory rack at the back so presumably that's out.
