Rear seat latch stuck in my '88 245 200

The plastic handle that folds the rear seat backs down has finally broken completely off in my '88 240 wagon.

On either side of the seat back, one of the metal latches is in the open position and the other is stuck in the closed position. Because of this I can't lock the seat back in the upright position.

I have tried pulling the metal cables inside the handle cavity and still have not been able to get the metal latches to both return to the position that will allow the seat to be locked upright.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Rear seat latch stuck in my '88 245 200 1990

I have a 90 wagon with the seat latch gone . I get it up and down by carefully getting a fingernail on a portion of the latch that can be seen from the back of the seat. Handy to do it is not . There's a movable portion of the latch that you can lift up to trigger the mechanism ... Hope that helps

I suggest that when you do get your back seat free, that you do NOT lock the back seat. Instead, replace it with one from the junk yard.

There have been posts in the past about fixing the release mechanism. Search the archives, I'm sure you'll find something useful in there.

Good luck!
