1990 744 GLE Water Pump 700

Does anyone know the part number for the water pump for a 1990 744 GLE with the B234F engine?

I had the pump replaced by the dealer and now it "weeps" (drips on the balance shaft belt cover) leaving long antifreeze streaks. Now I know you would say it's a leaking pump. I took it back to the dealer after the first replacement and they agreed it was leaking and replaced it with a second which also "weeps".

Now the dealer says all Volvo water pumps "weep" and I have to live with it.

The original pump had a plastic box under the bottom weep hole (I assume to collect the drips). The replacement pumps do not. The dealer claims that there is only one part number to fit all the 1990 740's. Is Volvo not supporting the B234F engine now?

Thanks for any help!

That's funny, they all weep? I've never seen one weep, unless they are old and worn out.
I think the only one who does any regular weeping here is the service manger trying to get out of his responsibilities.

Doesn't it seem odd to you that if in fact they believed that all of the pumps leaked that they didn't tell you that when you took it back the first time??

Dealers are like the rest of the human race. Some are forthright and honest while others are liars and cheats. I would make as much noise as possible (politely) and work my way up the ladder at the dealership until you got some satisfaction. If you don't get any you might try shining a light on these dopes by contacting your local media "Trouble Shooter". They have ripped you off and won't hesitate to do it again to whoever allows it to occur.

The B234 takes the same water pump as the B230 engines. All water pumps don't weep. They should never weep from the shaft seal. There is often a weeping problem from the rubber seal between the top of the water pump and the head.

If the weep is a problem, you can have the gaskets replaced.

Part numbers 271275 and 271830. I don't know hwy two are shown. The plastic box is shown in the parts book, and is refered to as a reservoir. I have never used one.

There are two rubber seals on the pump. One is between the top of the pump and the head. The other is where the heater pipe joins the pump at the rear. To do a good job, this heater pipe may need to be loosened up to clean the end. I ended up taking the exhaust manifold off to get at the bolt securing this rear pipe to the block (just the manifold to block studs, leave the exh pipe attached. Clean the pipe end and use a bit of silicone seal on both sides. The top seal makes the pump really hard to replace with the head on. I used a jack via a piece of wood to apply pressure under the pump and squash the seal against the head so that the pump retaining bolts would go in easily. The main thing is, clean every surface perfectly and don't damage the rubber bits as you install it. The pump will not weep!
