HUGE steering wheel. 120-130

Are there any smaller, reasonably cheap sterring wheel alternatives? I like the leverage of a gigantic wheel, but it's difficult to get myself around that thing. I'm 5'11" 180 lbs. so it's not like I'm too big, are any other volvo's good donors for a steering wheel that's a few inches smaller in diameter? (aside from the P1800 which as previously noted is amazingly rare around here. 140s are also quite rare)

Have you tried lowering your seat? I recently dropped mine at the brackets in the floor to the lowest set of holes (loosen the rake stud at the front first!).

I'm 6'3" and 220# and have no difficulty at all.

Yeah, I actually raised the rear up first to get the seats a little more level. The issue is really the front mount. It looks like you can just crank the front bolt down, but when I tried it actually bent. I used a lot of PB Blaster and came back at it and it still refused to budge. I think it might be down as far as it goes. Meaning that Sweds much have really tiny thighs.

Mine is a stud with a hole at the top to mount the seat frame to. At the floor is a jamb nut. The stud engages in threads in the floor so you have to both loosen the jamb nut and remove the bolt holding it to the seat frame. Once you have done that loosen the other mounting bolts just enough to tip the seat back a little and then you can run it all the way down to the deck if you so desire.

mr. R-man,
check out Grant Steering wheels. i put a 13" wheel in my '67 122 and enjoy the "workout" in tight turns at slow speeds. i'd probably opt for a 14" but there are size limitations based on the series and there are the cost considerations. make sure you get a wheel that will accept the adapter kit. not all their wheels will adapt.
happy trails---

Some sport weels are useable, but you need the adapter. Check on the brickboard archives, a year o more ago, another brickfan suggest a manufacturer of steering wheels with adapter included for the volvo 122.

It is my old "momo" clone: http://www.volvoadventures.com/121JoaquinPeru999.jpg

I don't think there's any Volvo-steeringwheel that 'just' fits the Amazon. Any aftermarket smaller and sporty wheel is possible but an adaptor is necessary. The company "Scandcar" in The Netherlands has these adaptors and ships it worldwide I think. Almost any steeringwheel is possible in that way. I mounted a 400-series accessoiry-steeringwheel once, but got a bit tired of the sight...
I'll try and show you a picture in this message of the smaller steerwheel I fitted in my P220 right now.

Good luck!

Leon

Hey Leon, I noticed you around before, only just noticed you're Leon de Wit form NL. Nice interior you've got there!

Thanks Ben! I sure am the NL Leon de Wit, haha! What a name I've established...
Picture of the dash turned out to be a bit bigger than supposed to, sorry for that viewers!
I'm actually quite interested in the different dashboards people design or redesign in their 120/130s, could this possibly be a nice new picture-topic?

Leon
