engine cutout 900 1993

Ive recently had a problem where when the weathers warm/humid (which is about 20C in the UK) the car goes a bit lumpy just after startup and when youve gone about 100yds the engine will cut and the emission control warning systems light come on. It's only an occasional problem but one I'd like to fix as its a 2 litre auto and youre brakes and steering disappear when the engine cuts.
Ive had a quick look at the FAQ on oxygen sensors and wonder if its the sensor that cuts the engine or whether its an information only feature . . .
Any help gratefully received.

If humidity is involved, I might suspect bad plug wires. If you (carefully) mist some water with a spray bottle over your wires and an electrical storm insues from the wires to the block, then you have found your problem. HTH.
