That I truly hate the crank position sensor. I never knew a snug fit could be so snug.

    Agreed - the one I just replaced on my son's 245 was a tight fit too. I worked the seam with a knife and got it out after 15 minutes, so I guess I was lucky after all.

    When I tried to remove the sensor, I was afraid to break it. But when I really tried to break it afterwards, to see what it looked like inside, I had to use the bench vice. It took my hammering with a shrug.

      The original sensor (224k mi) that I pulled out last week didn't take so kindly all the pulling and prying that I could administer. The first new sensor was a little more structurally sound - though it did show some wear by the time I managed to convince it to budge. The second sensor, fingers crossed, works fine and wont' need to be abused for years.

      I've found that heater motor replacement is a lot more fun with with the battery still hooked up, the car running, and the fan set on HIGH. That way you get to enjoy the squeal while you are trying to get to it, the exhaust fumes to mellow the mood, and yes, of course, the countless hours in the emergency room having your fingers stitched back together! No, I didn't actually try it this way but when I was replacing the fan motor, I was entertaining the above thoughts... along with three or four root canals at the same time... just to make life seem a little better.

        The heater motor in my '80 was already completely dead when I needed to replace it in 2002 (done over thanksgiving weekend.) So I wouldn't have been able to enjoy my self exactly as you describe above.

        Although I did have to connect the battery to move the car at one point. That was kinda freaky.

        It was still on its original heater motor though. Pretty impressive for a (then) 22 year old 240!

    That job is a pain on a 700 I'd hate it on a 200 which has the firewall closer to the head.

        It's a 700 series FAQ, it took less than 10 to do the one on my old '92 745T, Lots of room to get hands in there. I've never tried on a 240 and given the space I hope I never do.
