B230 Timing belt tensioner replacement 700 1990

Hello All, I am about to replace this and would like a little advice. I have the nail in place to hold the spring back and thought of this; I am going to try to slowly release the tension on the spring to remove it, replace the tensioner and spring then slowly reapply pressure using the old belt to get the nail back in place and then applt the new belt. Any advice on this would be appreciated!

Advice? Yes, don't over complicate this. Put it in the vice, squeeze it until the nail is loose, remove the nail and release the spring completely. When you recompress with the new tensioner in place just keep it from rolling out of the vice, compress it all the way down and put your nail back in it. It has already taken me longer to type this than it will for you to do it.

Mark
