OH NO! I really have to stop this. Much more and I'll have to quit work to keep up my obsession!
I don't know If I'll buy this one or not, but chances are that if it's still around next weekend, it'll come home with me.
It's an 85 244
It's light blue (slightly darker than baby blue) with blue interior. The driver's seat shows some slight wear on the cloth (NO BAD PLACES THOUGH). The body has pinstrips on the side as they often do and again on the raises part of the hood. Every part of this thing looks great. I mean it's not perfect, but it's very nice. To be prefectly honest, it looks better than my last 85 did and that was in 87!
I "think" I can get it for $300 or less (bought from these ppl very often and they don't value Volvo much). It's NOT running, but I'm guessing it's most likely a simple problem (didn't even put the key in the ign), given the place it's at.
Even if the engine's completely shot, I have an abundance of B230F engines from parted out 740s, that the original engine could donate it's shaft and distributor to.
Wiring harness looks to be in excellent shape (didn't pull back the covering though!) and may or may not be replaced. Motor mounts look to have came in the car and could really use new.
What a deleima! I do NOT need mor volvos, BUT I love the 'older' 240s (and subsiquent older models) and I only have 2 240s now. One's my 79 245 ("The Brick", it's brick colored and death will take it from me), the other's the last car I purcashesed, the 89 244 (which is now destined to head to NC as a Graduation/starting college gift for a family friend).
I really, really want it! I really, really don't need it! If I do end up buying it, I'll most likely let a couple of the 7xx cars go, dunno.
The thing is, I got VERY lucky on the last car I bought the 89 244 and how in the world can I not try to do it again! lol
OK, so this is a rant post. I'm really just trying to talk myself out of it (not well aye?).
Thanks for letting me let it loose,
Frank

Frank,
When are you getting a digital camera so we can look at some of these treasures? In MN, for $300, all I can find is brown colored steel with holes for the mice to call home.

Most of them are posted online here and there, but I really do need to get new pics and post them all in one place. Any suggestions as to where? There's a million options, but I've never had the desire to bog through them.
I'll c if I can get new pics this weekend when I get home and find a good spot on the web for them (will have my old site back up in a month or so for those that even remember me, and all the Volvos and Volvo stuff I've cataloged will all be in one place).

I'd say to have another good look or two at the car, and if things check out, try to get it for $300. To find a car in such an overall good condition (engine notwithstanding) for a pittance would be a wise purchase.
Considering your luck with the last 240's engine issues, I'd imagine you can solve this car's problem too. Let us know how it goes.

If I were actually in the market, I'd pay more even if I saw a rod through the side of the block. The car's just right along my lines, what ya might call "me".
I'm 99% certain that $300 would get it, and likely less. Since posting, I had to head back and look again. Can't find a bad point (to me anyway). I DID notice that the "common underhood fuse" had an issue. It's not actually the fuse, it's the "repaired connection" to pwr. It's badly corroded, loose and barely hanging together.
Underbody is well undercoated and in great shape, lifted carpet in several places inside and did see some early surface rust that will need to be addressed. The windshield seal is in poor shape and has had some sort of repair that looks as if it must have been done proffesionally, but I'd still have to yank it for my own sake.
Turned the engine over (jumped starter). All seems well thus far (will have to go back and get the key to actually test it well, but like I said, I wouldn't take it as much of an issue reguardless.
ID sheet lists that the Cruise Control does not work and the "bulb out indicator" stays on. Niether are much of an issue.
heck, this could be a bad fuel relay for all I know.
Will post back if I buy it.
Still trying to convince myself that I can resist it.

Well, how many do have already? (I'm not sure from your post).
If you've got the room for it how can you pass it up, especially at that price?
Of course I would be the last one to try and dissuade you from the 'older' 240's having just got my 85 245DL a couple of weeks ago.

must admit that I just have this saved and copy and paste it when asked
SO, here's the current count:
79 245 NA "The Brick" brick color, dark brown interior
82 242 NA "Un-named project car" almost completed the transplant of a 91's power train, but won't be done for some time yet. (too many colors to list), no interior
85 744 NA (Bride's car) manual (j-type OD), silver w/black interior
86 760 TIC "un named" Daughter's car, baby diaper yellow with black interior and on it's 4th engine in less than a year! (she's quite the engine killer, but the AW's still strong
RECENTLY SOLD AND NOW HAS AN AW trans 86 744 NA J-type OD (the one in the car's bad, the good one's in the trunk. lol), grey w/ tan interior. Runs great, NEEDS A HOME!
86 744 parts car, no drive train, most of the interior's gone as are the hood and one fender. It's dark grey and HAD tan interior.
Recently got a new home 86 745 TIC, "Go-Mor" P-type OD (converted), black interior, Perfection as it can be seen in an 86 model, this one will be leaving me this week as my sister in law has finally decided to try Volvo for a change (that and the fact that I'm GIVING it to her)
87 744 NA "Morpheous" ZF, grey w/tan, my highway/work car, GREAT car, but I do need to pay some attention to it's apperence here and there, WAY too much of a sound system (but WTH).
88 745 TIC "Un-named" project car. AW, hunter green w/tan, soon to get the complete systems from the NEXT LISTED car and become an NA car.
88 744 NA new parts car, Gold w/tan, ZF, fairly heavily optioned compared to my other 744s
89 244 newest addition. Deep dark blue, blue leather (custom aftermarket I'm told) GREAT shape! Low miles. Bone stock for the most part.
Leaving me in three weeks 90 245 TIC "Gert" P-type (conversion) IPD sways and sport springs burgandy (was white)w/ newly upolstered black leather interior, WAY too much of a sound sytem for a man my age (WTH), E-codes, custom stainless exhaust w/single FlowMaster, full poly bushings, just about everything I could through @ it over time. This one's slated to be auctioned off for a diabetes charity this summer.
And that's just the Volvos!
One of these days I'm gonna have to quit, but we all gotta die sooner or later ;) lol
