I Pulled and pulled and it came off eventually, but not as planned. I tore the screws right out of the roof, and broke the mounting tabs on the cover. Now that its off I see the ball mount, but it is secured by 2 heavy bars that are obviously stronger than the roof.

I think you made this a lot harder then it really is.

When you pull the mirror, you just pull down and "away" from the windshield and it will pop right out.

Thats what I did, but the ball socket didn't budge. The mounting screws were weaker than the ball socket
