740 16v and faith

Hi I have a 16v 1989 740 wagon. It sat for 3 months with 1/2 tank of fuel. I came home drove it about 180 miles and noted it just turned 240,000 miles and was running great. It died 2 minutes later. It was down to empty and I think it has water in the fuel. I was towed home but got it running on wd40 up the air intake pipe. I split the fuel line and pumped a quart of fuel into a bottle and it looked ok. Drove to the gas station and put in 2 dry gas and filled it up. Check engine light is on. I have lost my faith in it. What should I do to ensure it will keep on running and how do I reset light or is it telling me there is another problem. Want to believe!

Go to http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineOBDCodes.htm for info on resetting the light.( or you could just disconnect the battery, but depending on your year, you may need to re enter the radio code to get the radio working after )
Check light would come on if you ran it out of fuel. does'nt sound like a problem with the car

Get the Bertone 780 Volvo on the road, at least it's got some style; even for an older car.
