960 oil pressure and oil filter question 900

I changed my oil Monday night over to Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30. I filled my oil pan entirely when I found out there was about 6 quarts even in the engine!

Anyway, the oil filter I removed was a genuine Volvo one. I replaced it with a Wix since I don't have any Mann filters around the garage anymore. (I have not owned volvos for a couple years now)

Anyway, both oil filters have drainback valves, but when I start the car in the morning it runs for a second before the oil light turns off. Is this normal in the 960s? I switched over to synthetic to hopefully make things easier on the valves. It might have been synthetic oil in there before, but I have no idea being I'm the new owner.

My other question is about changing just the oil filter. Can I change out the oil filter at 5k without any leaking? The way it's mounted low, I didn't know if oil can leak out of the sump if you remove the oil filter or not...

Thanks for any info.

Wix is usually a good filter. Just NEVER use FRAM. I had one collapse and blow a hole through the media.

You can change without major leaking.

On my starts, the oil light stays on for just about 1 second as the car starts. Definitly not longer.

Yeah mine lights for about a second in the morning. If I recently drove it it goes off immediately.

In my 240s, if I had a POS Fram on there with no drainback the oil light was on for a second like this.. but with a Mann it turned off immediately regardless. It could just be a difference in design I guess.

Now that I think about it the drain-back for a 960 isn't really useful. the filter is low and mounted upright. There have been cases where the "O" ring on the pick-up tube has gone and then the tube looses prime after a while.
