Hello, I just replaced both rear calipers on my 88 240.However, when i test drive the car one side is 140 dregrees c compared to the other side w/c is 40 degrees c using an infrared thermometer.Can I switch the calipers RT-LT/LT-RT to confirm that one of the new caliper is indeed defective? Again thank you for any advice/opinion.

Did you replace the brake lines? Its sounds like you may have a brake line that is collapsing internally and causing a blockage which is in turn causing the brake to stick and overheat.

There not interchangable.

They will bolt right up but a left caliper on the right side will have the bleed screw on the bottom and vice versa obviously. So yes you can do it but no you cannot bleed them once installed.
