245 Strut insert wrench 200

I got ready to replace the strut cartridges on my 86 245 this afternoon, only to find that the rod nut is recessed in the strut tube. A standard 15/16" wrench will not fit it since there is not enough offset. Is there a special wrench available from someone other than Volvo?

Thanks,

Impact will work very well to loosen it. Don't use impact to tighten.

Lisle makes a nice strut tool. I can't remember the part number, but it costs about $50 and has about 5 or 6 components. It works on many different struts.

The wrench Alex recommends might be a lot cheaper.

Hazet makes a perfect 24mm x 30mm deep offset wrench for this, pared with a nice 1/2" drive 7mm hex bit (for the Billsteins) I found I didn't need impact tools to do the struts on my 760.

Are you speaking of the piston rod nut that goes on the top an is set down inside the upper spring seat/bearing plate? I have always just blown them out of the way with a 1/2" impact gun.

Good Point! I had thought about buying an offset wrench tomorrow and bending it enough to fit. If an impact will work, I'll do that.

Thanks,
