Master Cylinder Shelf Life 200

Hello All,

I got a real good deal on an OEM master cylinder about 10 years ago. I figured that with two 240’s, one of them being 15 years old (at the time), I’d need it for sure. Well it’s still on my basement shelf, and I’m wondering if, when I need to use it, it needs to be rebuilt first, in case the rubber seals inside are breaking down, or some rust may be developing somewhere. Also, I purchased it for a 1980. Would the same one be used on an ’88?

Thanks!

1980 and 1988 should be the same. Just make sure that the brake line fittings are on the same side. Not sure the life of the seals but don't believe that their made of rubber as they need to be brake fluid resistant. I have some NOS clutch master cylinders and they look fine to me.

I have to agree with Yama on that one. The only difference I have seen in the 240 master cylinders is which side the fittings are on, most of them use the ones with the fittings on one side, the side facing the engine. Keep it wrapped and sealed best as possible and it will probably be ok.
