Can you make a metal splash pan? + rear decor panel: retro-fit or sell????? 200

Hey evryone!
has anyone ever tried to make a metal splash pan? similar to the one that IPD sells. It looks like it can be made with out welding, just bend to shape, drill and go.

What are you referring to as the "decor panel"?

Yeah, you can make one ... or just get a metal splash pan from an early 240 from the junkyard.

As for the decor panel ... sell it for $$, and then buy the 240 panel instead. It will look a lot better when it actually fits well. :)

240 Decor Panel 200

Kane;

Do you have a supplier for the 240 Decor Panel? I've been looking for ages and can't find one yet and I would really like one for my sedan.

I built a steel splash pan for my 78 242 "mudbuggy".. (3" lift all round - Walmart Wintermark Magnagrips run year round - best backroad tire I have ever used at any price.

I fabbed mine out of about 16 - 18 guage steel. welding and cutting were involved.

If I were to do it again - I would look for 24 - 26 guage steel (fender panel thickness) - come to think of it - an old fender off a brick would be about right...

The steel pan I built turned out to be too heavy for the small - 6mm- bolts and mounting holes. A couple mounting "nuts" have pulled out.

I will now have to weld mounting lugs onto the lower cross member under the rad if I want to keep using the steel pan.

IPD has an aluminum pan they sell

www.ipdusa.com

It looks chunky - as does my steel pan.

If you have the tools to do the metal forming you may get away without welding - but the $25 plastic pan from

www.fcpgroton.com

has been on my 87 wagon for one winter now - and doing well - and I just ordered another one yesterday for the 78 mudbuggy.

Sometimes re-inventing the wheel is just for fun....

good luck - if you decide to fab a metal pan - let us know how it turns out

Goldy
