Upon removing the turbo oil return line I found that there were 2 o-rings originally installed. One regular o-ring and one with "square edges". When I ordered a replacement o-ring from the Volvo dealer, they came up with only one o-ring (the square edged one..this one orange in color).
Did volvo change procedure here?
Will the orange suffice or do I need to order an additional one?

The single orange square edge o-ring has been used since Volvo started selling turbo 240s.

OK, fine, but is there another rounded O-ring in "front" (closer to the tip). Which I discovered during disassembly..

Someone added the round o-ring. Maybe the oil drain tube is a little bent and too short. If that is the case, get a new oil drain tube or straighten the old one. If the oil drain tube is bent, it will be quite difficult to straighten the right amount.

My replacement was orange, also. it should fit snugly over the pipe and be tight when inserted into the block hole. It's a bit of trouble to get it to align correctly, so make sure it is place and the O ring isn't damaged in the process. I put a light film of silicone sealer under the O ring & more silicone sealer in the hole after the pipe was in place.

When you disassembled, there was only one O-ring? The squared one? The point of my question was: Since my disassembly proved there were 2 o-rings...should I seek to obtain the rounded O-ring as well?

All volve torbo oil return pipes came with only 1 square cut O-ring. Someone added the round one for reasons only he would know. As long as the tube is not damaged the single square cut O ring is all you need.
