Clutch Squeal: Is it Fixable? 700

1991 744T M46 (4 speed plus O/D):

Last year I basically redid most of this car. With a rebuilt 94 b230ft I installed a SPEC stage II hybrid clutch and pressure plate system; this setup grabs high and hard and is a bit jumpy if I'm not running at full coordination for the day. It has been sqealing forever now, under torque. Is there any way to alleviate this? Can I take out the clutch disc and lubricate the springs on the hub? Or is the squealing coming from the disc surface itself? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Clutch Squeal: Is it Fixable? 700

"Squeeling under torgue" usually indicates some sort of slipping. My previous 740 clutch squeeled when starting up in first due to burning by the previous owner. Are you sure there isn't any air in your clutch hydraulic system? Maybe it's not being released completely. I wouldn't think you'd want to put any lubrication on the clutch springs. It would just get thrown out onto the clutch and you'd be much worse off.

Clutch Squeal: Is it Fixable? 700

On older VW's there used to be a trick of accessing a small hole in the bell housing or drilling a very small hole, letting all of the metal fall to the ground when drilling, and sticking one of those small lubricant plastic straws through to lubricate the throw-out bearing. I think there was a hole somewhere else you could look through to see where you were spraying it.
Good Luck...

Could be your throwout bearing. I've read some posts here about some bricksters squirting lubricant inside onto the bearing with success. Search the archives here. This subject came up last month I think.

Good Luck
