Hi - converted my 245 (86) several years ago but and loosing cool air now. It's been 3 or 4 years so I'm sure all I need is a recharge w/134. Anyone remember the correct amount of 134 to put in? I remember that the retrofit decal that came w/the retrofit kit from Volvo called for 2.2 lbs of 134 but that was too much, everything kept freezing uo. We had to lower the charge to 1.9 lbs if I remember correctly but wanted to see if anyone could verify.

on my 86 245, i checked my low pressure side with a gauge which read below 25 psi (17 psi, i think). before, i just added what was recommended for r134--2.2 lbs?

this last time about 2 months ago, i charged it up to about 30 psi or so. i may have added more than the recommended r134 amount, but it's holding up and it's the coldest it's been since i retrofitted my a/c two years ago in march. the louver temps read something like 56 F at idle, on an afternoon in the upper 80s in may. but it gets colder when driving 50+ mph.

now, in the mid 90s here in houston, tx, it's still nice and very cool. i haven't check the temp again since, though. cools fast.

instead of staying within 2.2 lbs of freon, i went by what was on the manifold gauge this time--picked up the nice, single gauge at walmart. it's graduated just like a regular a/c gauges, but only one hose & gauge.

i did replace the a/c compr about 1.5 years ago with another diesel kiki from the jy. a good unit. and i added a puller electric fan last month, permacool finger chopper, and installed inside the plastic cowling in front of the mechanical clutch fan.

try adding a condensor fan, check the archives about adding a fan, and charge up to about 25-35 psi on the low side.
