I have a few questions on my OBD codes:
1989 740GL, B230F non-turbo, auto
Problem - poor mileage, idle drops down from 750 to 200'ish, then recovers, general engine performance is rough, lack or power
This all started about 1-month after I installed a complete new exhasut from cat back. Engine has: new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, rpm sensor, recently cleaned throttle body, air filter, fuel filter (less than 3k), fuel regulator, replacement "known-good 016" AMM. Cat is not too old (maybe 2-yrs and under 50k). I ran the vacumm checks with propone with no evidence of a leak. I also checked the intake tubes for any cracks.
Question 1:
I get a 1-2-1 code ("suspect AMM or wiring"). Both the old and replacement AMM generate this code. Should I suspect wiring? Where is a likely place to start on this?
Question 2:
In Diagnostic Mode 2 System Sensor Signal Test I get a 3-3-2 for the TPS in the full load position, or when moved back slightly. My instructions say this should be 3-3-3. The result I get corresponds to the 3-3-2 expected at the idle stop position. Any ideas what this might mean?
Question 3:
I cannot generate the code for "engine speed compensation for automatic trans" when following the proceedure of brake-drive-neutral. Should I worry about this?
Question 4 (last one!):
In Diagnostic Mode 3 I am unclear as to what I am finding. The system tests the injectors and then the idle control valve (audible).... but repeats this test three times if I let it go. Is this test supposed to run on all 4-injectors in sequence? If so, does the fact that it runs only three times mean I have a bad injector? Is the test order rear to front? Any suggestions?
Also, on this same test I cannot get an audible test result for either the radio supprssion relay or the fuel pump. Is this to be expected?
Appreciate the help!!
