Fuel pressure regulator 245dl 200 1985

Is it bad luck or some other problem? Replaced fuel pressure regulator 2 years/200,000 miles ago with new unit. It failed (diaphragm leak) 2 weeks and 300 miles ago. Was replaced with a tested used unit. That unit is now beginning to fail in same manner after only 300 miles. Am I missing something? Can the inlet fuel pressure from the main pump be too high. Any thoughts.
Howard

Thanks to everyone for their help

Indeed the fuel rail pressures were high and the problem was a crimp in the return line where it enters the gas tank. It has been fixed and the car runs better than it has in years. Unfortunately this problem probably resulted in more than $500 of expenses over the last two years (fuel pump, in tank pump, 2 pressure regulators and 2 crankcase flushes not to mention poor gas mileage.

If your engine has a turbo and you have excessive oil in the intake system, oil could be pushed through the vacuum hoses under pressure and detoriate the diaphrams over time. This happened on my 82 240 turbo.Eddie

Check the return line for blockage.
Best to see if you have high pressure with a pressure gauge. A pain but will tell the story.......
