Driver's door swings closed too easily; locked up 'rotators?' 200 1990

I'm getting going a '90 245 that's sat for most of a year. The driver's door doesn't stay propped open, so on a slight incline when you're getting in it wants to close on your feet. On the hinge are two "rotating heads?" that are locked up even though I used PBlaster on them. Also the thick "wire?" (it's not a wire) that the rotators hit looks like it should go out farther. Is the top half of the hinge with the rotators replaceble? Thanks.

Pics of the fix here 200 1990

Cut and paste the above or click in the link in my sig' and in the quick index look for hinge repair. If the door swings closed easily the rotators are not the culprit, the spring is busted. When the rotators freeze it gets hard to close and the door frame starts cracking from the stress.

This is REALLY easy to fix guys...even more so if you don't care about the color. Just take the fuse panel and cover off/three 10 mm bolts hold the hinge to A-pillar...same on Door side.

Take the driver's seatbelt valance off a junk car (or yours)...same 10 mm bolts on B-pillar for rear passenger door...fold it closed...slip it up (slips out and up - barely, but easily)...install in front.

I'm guessing the Left Rear pass door has probably seen 1000 times less use than drivers door?...you're good for another 10 years when you install in front.

If you want the same color - just swap them - so what if the passenger door slams shut a bit easily - when was the last time somebody used that door on your car???

I've done this on all my 240's - takes about 15 mins now - Before you begin, it helps to spray some degreaser on the hinge assembly and rinse with water and a paint brush - be sure to re-lube when you're done...but only on contact points - don't spray lithium..makes a mess and attracts dirt.

Cheers!

Dennis

Good idea - less wear right? Have you replace one? Seems pretty straightforward.

Same problem '90 245 - and no, none of the hinge parts are replaceable, only the complete assembly. I did think I might try bending the spring part so the end if it sits where it did originally - against the outer edge of the hole it locates in, rather than in the centre as it does now.
