broken end link 700

Broke one end link when the top nut spun off as I was preparing to install new IPS\D sway bar. End links from Pep Boys or Volvo specific from IPD/NAPA, etc? This is Sunday afternoon and I am over half way thru the job, ready for new bar install. Guess I can go ahead and start the rear bar as it is the easier of the two....Thanks,

sorry, common failure. 700

Lots of small suspension bits just break when you try to replace them...air wrenches often twist off bolts when trying to take off nuts, even if you PB or liquid wrench (I like aerokroil BTW!) them a couple days in advance.

BTW, NOW is the time to replace your conical bushings in the lower suspension arms. If you have more than 70K on them they're likely toast!

Also, check the book for the compressed length of the bushing/washers on the end links...I think it's something like 38 or 40mm but someone may post it for sure. Maybe the FAQ has the length? Some people like to just tighten the link until the bushings bulge out to the dia of the washers or just tight, your choice. Too tight the bushings fail, too loose, the swaybar rattles or doesn't kick in correctly.

Make sure you get the right kind. For my year, 1990, there were 2 different types of sway bar end links.

I ordered mine from FCPGroton. They are about $12, plus shipping, which has always been very fast and cheap. FCP is in CT, I am in NY, stuff gets to me overnight even with UPS Ground.

I bought 740 end links from a local foreign parts store here in Pittsburgh recently, so they're apparently not too uncommon, although they did need to order them from their Ohio warehouse.

Cost was about $22.00 for the pair, including new rubber bushings.

Hope you find them quickly.
