Check Engine Light Duration 900 1991

Hi,

91 940 Turbo - getting a 1-4-4 on the OBD connector 6 after it stalls at random (4-5 times a week).

Question:

The Check Engine light remains on, and then turns off at what seems random - does this indicate the problem is still there being actively detected? Or is it an indication that I shoud retrieve the failure code from the OBD and then reset it? (taking the battery terminals off I assume).

Incidentally there is also a 1-3-2 on OBD connector 2 (Low/High battery warning)

Thanks again!

John in Toronto.

FAQ: Does the OBD Code Pinpoint All Problems? [Editor] Absolutely not: the earlier OBD-I systems are quite crude and provide a hint only.

You may have more than one problem. Fix the stalling problem and it may or may not solve the check engine light problem. I’d start with the fuel injection relay, crank sensor and fuel pump relay. BTW, I got a 1-3-2 code with a bad fuel pump relay.
