Sunroof lubrication

As per FAQ, I got some PB lubrication and sprayed it on to the various sunroof points, including the screw drive thing on both sides. Guess what, sunroof now makes a slight crunching noise when opening. Looks like the lubricant worked loose bits of dirt and metal filings that were encrusted on both sides of the screw drive (???) . Any suggestions? Will this cause long term damage. Should I have used a grease gun instead.

BTW Mobil 1 Spray lube no longer exist.

Well you've got to know that it can't be good for it. What is this sunroof in, 200 or 700? I have found over the years that if you do not run a layer of grease on the selector gates of the 700 series roofs that they make a gross noise when lifting up to the vent position or dropping down to slide back. If it is just a plain old 200 series then I guess you can try blasting some of the crud out with compressed air among other things. Personally I'd love to just hose the whole mess down with brake spray clean and compressed air but one can only imagine the mess that would make on your headliner.
