hige mileage medallions arrived 200 1986

Hey brickheads. my high mileage club medallions arrived on saturday (3 of them that is) and I was wondering about the proper mounting of these things. I was lead to believe that they were to be displayed in the grill of the car, but they are equiped with double face tape which appears none too adept at grill mounting. another person suggested that they be mounted on the trunk deck next to the "240DL" badge. If they are to be mounted in the grill, I am concerned about restricting airflow into the radiator (as it is hovering around 100 degrees F in the DC area and we have chronic gridlock). Also have any of you actually mounted these in the grill, if so how was this accomplished? Please advise.

Every single Volvo we own has at least 100k or more. We mounted our badges on the rear to the left of the license plate and I bought additional badges for the front grill so everybody can see them coming or going. On the rear the original tape has held fine (prep the area with denatured alcohol.) On the front I used 3M double sided tape cut to fit vertically on the grill fins. The front ones have yet to fall off. I don't think there is a standard location to mount the emblems. There shouldn't be a problem with airflow. You mentioned about poor airflow in high heat and gridlock. You may want to consider upgrading with the '90 and newer electric cooling fan to assist in cooling. You could pull the fan, sensor (located either in the upper rad. hose or left hand side of the radiator) and the wiring harness pretty cheap or buy the upgrade on an online auction. Good luck, Congrats on the 300k mark. Email me if you have any more questions about the fan upgrade.

I put mine on the grille like this: 200 1981

I got two and hope to get my 300K badge this year. Here's how I mounted them, and have had no cooling issues, but I haven't fixed the A/C yet and it's not all that hot here in Colorado.

hey thanks for the tip. I rarely use my a/c as it does bump the temp up to levels that i am uncomfortable with (esp since i put a head gasket on last summer and know the pain it is) plus the old cooler doesn't do very much for the DC 100 degree F temps with 95% humidity...I am gonna mount these bad boys this weekend...and show the toyota boys what durability is....if i keep her another couple of years maybe I will have 4 badges and can have some symetry to the grill.

I didn't use anything but the tape it came with... and the badge lasted for 4 years (would have lasted longer, until I sold her).

Grille Mount Instructions + Pictures 200 1986

Guide on Brickboard

I've mounted my 100K mile badge this way. You can see how it looks in my profile picture.

I don't think mounting the badge on the grille will affect airflow in any way (unless you're Irv Gordon).

did the badge's tape simply stick to the grill? did you have to fashion a brackett? I am still curious as to how this works.

Personally I like to put my badges on the drivers side front quarter panel, just underneath the Volvo badge. They can be lined up one on top of the other. I've never had a problem with them falling off either.

thanks for the idea...that may be a good place considering the air-flow concerns that I have. Also they can be placed sequentially according to rank, which could be more pleaseing to the eye.

jsut call volvo of north america and talk to a rep there...give them the vin and the mileage and they will send out the badges. you get one for every 100,000 miles that u have driven...the best part is that they are free.
