IPD Sport Exhaust 200

Has anyone tried the IPD sport exhaust? If so, what are your thoughts and experiences with it? Would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Will Hawkins

I guess if I needed a new exhaust and there was a good sale, it would be OK. Anecdotal estimates of hp change are pure fantasy. Numbers provided by an intere$ted party are called conflict of interest.

IPD Sport Exhaust 200

I put the IPD sport exhaust on my 1992 245 wagon a few months ago. The exhaust is louder than it was. On my car at certain rpms and gears, the exhaust tone sounds odd to me. I didn't really have any problems installing the system. I did have to go back the next day and adjust the position of the muffler so that it did not bump on the underside of the car. The parts all went together well and seemed well made. I can't tell if there is any increase in horse power. I do believe the gas mileage increased slightly. I think I would purchase the system again.

Best of Luck.

I put the sport exhaust on my 88 245 about a year and a half ago. Not sure if I gained much power. I have however increased the mileage by 1 to 1.5 mpg. It has more than paid for itself.

The only problem I have is the pipe diameters didn't match up properly. I ended up getting a new transition pipe between the cat and pipe over the rear axle. It still doesn't fit properly and rattles at certain rpm. I'll probably just go get it welded somewhere.

Overall I think the sport exhaust is good, mainly losing the resinator as the last post mentioned. Slightly more sound but not too bad.

Have you noticed any resonance within your car as a result of the change? That would be my only additional concern for installing a sport exhaust, additional vibration.

(The turbo models didn't have the first muffler because the turbos themselves functioned as a resonator.)

Yes, there is more vibration. Particularly at certain speeds. The other negative is it is noticably louder at idle.

Pros - A little more mid to high-end power. Also sounds sportier than stock.

I recently purchased the IPD "sport exhaust" when it was on sale for about $155 and installed it on my '89 245. Installation is easy but time consuming, mostly taking the old system apart. IPD claims 5 to 7 hp increase and sales person said "closer to 10" I think 5 to 7 is about right. The system uses a 2" inch pipe from the cat back and a Borla muffler. Sounds good.
For $155 I would do it again.

I do know that it is very high cost and it is not that great. I would go with a 60 series Flowmaster, Borla or Magnaflow. I really believe that eliminating the resinator is the first thing to power gains in 240. It is choking the car!!!
