Phil S'trikes again 1800

Latest VCOA Rolling magazine article submitted by Phil...

My favorite nugget:
"...we were proud members of the Old Volvos are Great Cars for Cheap Smart People's Club."

Phil has a way of putting this hobby to words, huh?.

Another good job, Phil!

Shayne.

PS- Great picture, too ;o)

My thoughts on Phil's writing:

Phil has a knack for talking about everything but the nitty-gritty work. Not that he glosses over it, but we have all changed our oil and we don't want to read about that because it is boring. But it's the things that happen while we are changing the oil, which he writes about, that makes it such a good read.

I'm doing a poor job explaining myself so let me offer an example. We've all read the story of Marsha's Amazon resurrection. The best part of that story is not the fact that he put this beasty back together so nicely, but rather how the tedium of cleaning door hardware drove him nuts. Or how the process affected their relationship. Or the change in attitude about the whole thing from part 1 to part 3 and 4. Or any other number of examples like this.

Phil's writing has made me think of my Volvo not as a project but rather as a journey. There will be successes and failures along the way but if it weren't for those high and low points, there wouldn't be any point in owning it, anyway.

Shayne, how can I strike when I don't even belong to the People Who Never Thought They'd Work on Volvos For a Living But Ended Up Building a Big Shop Anyway and Here I Am Doing Just That union?
